Case Study

Wrought Iron Candelabra

Project Details

Wrought iron candelabra commissioned by a local architect and builder for a luxury home on the Belongil beachfront in Byron Bay.

Feature materials

Forged then rusted mild steel

The unusual and creatively demanding brief from our client was to create a wrought iron candelabra similar to the one hanging above the Chamber of the Painted Table in Dragonstone from the epic series, Game of Thrones.

The result is a dramatic three-tiered 26-candle chandelier, 1700mm in diameter and weighing 80-100kg. An in-house rusted finish was applied and finished with a rust-neutralising coating for an old-world look.

With this client living beachside with plenty of ocean breeze to contend with, we knew candles would not be a practical solution. So we opted to blend medieval style with modern functionality by fitting this wrought iron candelabra with LED strip lights inside the rings, and a motorised lowering system.

This project included multiple prototypes for the client and took several months to complete. After carefully adjusting the hooks to balance each tier, the wrought iron candelabra was installed in the formal dining room for a greater atmospheric effect.
